The Miles & More® World Elite Mastercard® is a travel rewards credit card associated with Lufthansa. It offers a whole lot of bonus miles, extra travel rewards, and doesn’t charge for foreign transactions.
Cardholders will earn miles for purchases, and can also earn quite a few bonus miles.
2 award miles are granted for every dollar spent on tickets purchased directly from airlines integrated with the Miles & More program. 1 mile is granted for every other dollar spent.
The following airlines are part of the Miles & More program:
- Lufthansa Regional
- Lufthansa Private Jet
- Austrian Airlines Group
- Brussels Group
- Croatia Airlines
- Adria Airways
- LOT Polish Airlines
There’s also an introductory bonus of 50,000 bonus miles for spending $3,000 in the first 90 days, and another 25,000 bonus miles for spending $20,000 in the first year.
Miles can be redeemed with the airlines listed above, for flight awards and upgrades, as well as for shopping, car rentals, and hotel stays. The full details can be found on the Miles & More mile redemption site. For European travelers, a new deal is available as well: miles can now be redeemed for a Best Western Travel Card loaded with euros. At the minimum, 8,250 miles will earn a card loaded with 25 euros; at the maximum, 49,500 miles will earn a card loaded with 150 euros.
Miles will expire, unless a purchase that earns miles is made at least once every month.
There are 3 possible status upgrades for Miles & More members, each offering a better deal: Frequent Traveler, Senator, and HON Circle Member. Frequent Traveler status will be granted if 35,000 miles are earned in 1 year; Senator status is granted if 100,000 miles are earned in 1 year; and HON Circle Member status is granted if 600,000 HON Circle miles are earned in a 2 year period. HON Circle miles are earned only on flights in First or Business Class, as well as with the Best fare for flights with Germanwings. Each status upgrade includes a 25% bonus when redeeming miles.
More information about each upgrade can be found on the Miles & More status levels page.
After the first purchase or balance transfer is made, an Economy Class Companion Ticket will be awarded. Another companion ticket will be provided on the anniversary of the account opening, for as long as the account lasts.
There are many conditions to this offer, including that it can only be used for flights departing from the U.S. and destined for Europe, the Middle or Far East, or Africa. The main and companion ticket must also be booked in H/Class or higher. The full details can be found on the Lufthansa Companion Ticket terms and conditions page.
Miles & More also offers a number of unique promotional offers that come and go, such as offering 10 miles per minute for roaming calls in Russia, double miles for rentals from Budget, and double miles for stays in select Best Western hotels.
Cardholders receive two Lufthansa Business Lounge access vouchers per year. You’ll need a boarding pass for a same-day departing flight with a Lufthansa, Star Alliance, or Codeshare partner to get in. Authorized users receive no additional vouchers.
This card is a World Mastercard, so cardholders will enjoy an upgraded set of additional benefits.
These benefits include a personal concierge service, for assistance with any non-emergency needs that might come up. These can range from finding the best tickets to an event, buying hard-to-find gifts, or coordinating business arrangements.
Another concierge service is included, Mastercard Airport Concierge™. This is an interesting service for frequent travelers, designed to make the airport experience as smooth and painless as possible. A Meet & Greet escort will be waiting when you arrive at the airport, and can be assigned to help in a number of ways upon your request: they can be ready to move you quickly through immigration checkpoints, assist with baggage, or arrange for chauffeured vehicles, for example. This service comes with a fee.
When traveling, the Mastercard Priceless Cities program provides access to unique and memorable experiences in many of the world’s most exciting cities. When choosing Miami, for example, for only $75 you can sign up for a 3-hour personal cooking class and lunch with Chef Igor Ferraro of La Bottega Sociale, an exquisite, authentic Italian restaurant.
When traveling and in trouble, Mastercard Global Service is available to help in an emergency. This includes getting roadside assistance, replacement cards, or an emergency cash advance.
Cardholders also have access to a price protection service. After buying an item, if that item is advertised for a lower price within 120 days, the difference in prices could be reimbursed. Cardholders will not be held liable for fraudulent purchases.
This card comes with chip-and-PIN technology, giving it additional security and making it usable with merchants while traveling abroad, particularly in Europe.

|Penalty APR||Late Fee||Returned Payment Fee|
|None||Up to $39||Up to $39|
The Bottom Line
This is could be quite a rewarding card for travelers. The annual fee makes this a card for frequent travelers only, who will use the miles and benefits to make up for this. The interest rates could be on the high end, though the introductory offer is a great asset.
Unfortunately, at least one miles-earning purchase must be made per month to keep the miles active. If the card is being used frequently this shouldn’t be a problem, but if cardholders aren’t careful they could lose a lot of miles.
On the other hand, it does have two particular features that should come with every great travel card: there is no foreign transaction fee, and it comes equipped with chip-and-PIN. These make it useful not only for booking travel, but also for making purchases while out of the country.
