Where Can I Use the Apple Rewards Card?

You can use this card anywhere Visa is accepted, which is pretty much everywhere.

But it will be best to only use this card for a big purchase at Apple, rather than for general spending. Check out the next section to learn why.

The Financing Offer

This card comes with a special financing offer, letting you pay off large purchases over time at no interest.

This 0% APR financing is only available for purchases made within the first 30 days. This means the card is best used to make a large purchase quickly, and then simply put it away and pay it off without making more purchases.

The promotional 0% APR period you get will depend on how much money you spend:

  • under $498: 6 months
  • $499 – $998: 12 months
  • $999 and over: 18 months

So the more you spend, the longer you’ll have to pay it off.

Take note that this offer includes deferred interest. This means that if you don’t pay off the entire balance by the end of the promotional period, you’ll be charged interest going all the way back to the purchase date.

This will add up to a whole lot of interest, especially if you’re buying a more expensive computer. So be sure to keep an eye on your remaining balance and the time you have to pay it off, and remember that just paying the minimum payment probably won’t be enough.

One good strategy would be to take your balance and divide it by the number of months you have to pay it off: this will tell you how much you need to pay each month to get down to $0 in time. It’s also a good idea to try to pay it off early, just in case things don’t go exactly according to plan.

The Rewards

This card also lets you earn points for every dollar you spend, a pretty rare find on a card with promotional financing deals. You’ll earn:

  • 3X points per dollar at the Apple Store
  • 2X points per dollar at restaurants
  • 1X point per dollar on all other purchases
  • Every 2,500 points earns a $25 Apple or iTunes gift card

You’ll earn points on your big, financed Apple purchase too. At the 3X rate, every $833.33 you spend at Apple will earn you one of those $25 gift cards.

Since this card’s 0% APR offer only applies to Apple purchases in the first 30 days, it will be best to only use it at Apple during that period. The 2X points at restaurants seems like a nice gesture, but that’s not really what this card is meant for.

If you end up using this card outside of that 30-day period at Apple, you won’t have the 0% intro APR period. Instead you’ll be charged interest on those purchases starting that month.

Remember that you can avoid interest charges by paying off those purchases in full by the end of the billing period.

The Benefits

When you’re approved, you’ll receive either a Visa Platinum or Visa Signature version of this card. The version you get will depend on your credit and your financial status.

Signature is the higher level, providing more valuable benefits and features. The following benefits may come with both cards unless otherwise noted. Check your card’s Guide to Benefits to learn exactly what is available with your card.

This card is best used for the promotional financing offer described above. But there are a few things you’ll need to keep in mind to use this card correctly and get the most out of it, without getting burned.

Remember that this card has deferred interest, which means that if you don’t pay off the entire purchase you finance, you’ll be charged interest going all the way back to the purchase date.

Not only that, you could potentially lose your promotional period if you make a late payment. So set up the autopay feature to always make at least the minimum payment each month.

Insider Tip: Having trouble paying off your card’s balance, with the end of the promotional period coming up? You can move that balance over to a different credit card with a 0% APR balance transfer deal, potentially saving you hundreds of dollars in deferred interest. Check out our picks for the Best Balance Transfer Credit Cards – 2016!

You can use this card to make purchases anywhere you’d like, but unless you use the promotional financing offer at Apple you’ll start accruing interest on your purchases immediately.

Just pay off those purchases in full each billing period to avoid interest charges, making this card as cheap to use as possible (preferably free!).

The Bottom Line: 4 out of 5 Stars

The Barclaycard Visa with Apple Rewards Credit Card is a great way to finance a big purchase from Apple, giving you time to pay it off at no interest.

There are a few terms with this card that could be quite tricky, so here are the main points to remember:

  • Use this card for the 0% APR financing at Apple during the first 30 days
  • Don’t use this card to buy anything else! Just put it away in a safe spot (not your wallet or purse)
  • Set up autopay for at least the minimum payment, so you never miss a month
  • Divide your balance by the number of months you get for financing; that’s how much you need to pay each month to be done in time
  • Remember that you can use your card benefits at any time

As long as you follow those guidelines and use this card responsibly, you should be all set to pay off your purchase safely.

We gave this card 4 out of 5 Stars because it’s designed to do one thing, and it does it well. You can make one big purchase from Apple, like a desktop or laptop, and you’ll have at least 6 months to pay it off at no interest. Just use it for that purpose, and it will serve you well. This card loses a star because of the deferred interest and because you can lose your promotional period if you make a late payment, but these are pretty typical terms on financing deals like these.
