Our Rating: 5 Out of 5 Stars

One of a rare breed of corporate charge cards, the Brex 30 Card (Review) offers a unique set of business management tools, perks, and rewards. But with no personal guarantee and high-end business benefits like these, the requirements tend to be rather strict.

Why We Like It

  • Your choice of three valuable industry-specific rewards programs
  • Benefits include several thousand dollars in statement credits and discounts for business tools and services
  • Proprietary expense management systems, including receipt-matching, intelligent reconciliation, and more
  • Gives you time to pay the bill each month
  • Available with no personal guarantee and no personal credit check
  • No annual fee or foreign transaction fee

Why It Could Be Better

  • Only available to businesses that meet relatively strict criteria (Can’t qualify? See regular business credit cards.)
  • Not available to sole proprietors
  • Misses some major business-related spending categories, such as telecom services and shipping
  • Limited point transfer options
  • Must have a minimum of $50,000 in a bank account for venture-backed companies; $100,000 otherwise

Tired of average business cards that look a lot like regular personal cards? Need something bigger and better?

The Brex 30 Card might be the answer. Designed for medium and large corporations, it’s an all-around payment solution with thousands of dollars in statement credits and discounts for business services, excellent rewards, and a suite of expense management tools.

You’ll get a credit limit 10 to 20 times higher than other business cards, according to Brex, so if you need a lot of spending capacity this card can deliver. It comes with a 30-day payment cycle, and the bill must be paid in full each billing period.

If you’d like, you can pair this card with a Brex Cash account, and have the balance automatically paid off daily. If you do that you’ll earn 1X more point per dollar in certain categories.

This card has a lot to offer, but it’s not as easy to qualify for as most other business cards. See those requirements below, which include being a corporation and having $50,000 in the bank if you’re venture-backed, $100,000 otherwise. Sole proprietors and consumers are not eligible.

Insider tip

Don’t have the money, but interested in Brex? If you’d qualify for this card except for the monetary requirement, or you don’t mind paying every day, consider the Brex Daily Card (Review). It has to be paid daily from a Brex Cash account, but its more accessible than the Brex 30 Card.

Insider Advice: Getting the Most Out of Your Card

  • Take some time to pay, but pay in full: The Brex 30 card must be paid in full each billing cycle; you can’t revolve a balance from month to month.
  • Consider pairing it with Brex Cash to pay daily and earn more points: The Brex 30 card can be paired with a Brex Cash account, if you so choose, and your balance will be paid daily. That’d be nice because you’d never have to worry about making payments or late fees. You’ll also earn 1X more point per dollar in certain bonus categories.
  • Pick Tech Rewards, Life Science Rewards, or Remote Workforce Rewards: Brex offers three great rewards programs, designed for different kinds of business expenses. There’s more to customize (and more points per dollar) than most other business cards.
  • Get the word out about your company: All three of the Brex reward programs include 1.5X points per dollar for ads, so you can rack up the rewards.
  • Take advantage of the card benefits: In addition to its more traditional point-based signup bonus, Brex provides new cardholders with thousands of dollars in statement credits and discounts for services that many up-and-coming businesses will likely find useful.
  • Redeem points to reduce your account balance: The Brex card earns points relatively quickly if you play your cards right, and the company allows statement credit point redemptions at a rate of 1 cent per point.
  • Redeem points through Brex Travel: Thanks to negotiated rates, redeeming points through Brex Travel may allow you to score an exceptional deal on your next business excursion.
  • Transfer your points when it makes sense: Brex allows 1:1 point transfers to select airline loyalty programs, which may allow you to boost your return on spend beyond the 1-cent-per-point value that Brex offers.

Redeeming

You have three point redemption options:

  • Statement credits
  • Gift cards
  • Travel (via Brex Travel)

The basic redemption options will give 1 cent per point, but Brex Travel could be a great way to get a better value. Brex boasts an average savings of 30% when booking through its portal, with some discounts reaching 60%.

You can also transfer your points at a 1:1 ratio to a variety of airline mile programs, covering several airline alliances. This is another good way to go beyond 1 cent per point and get even more out of this card, giving you a chance to redeem with your favorite airline (if it or its airline alliance is included).

As of publication, Brex’s airline partners are:

Airline Partners
Aeromexico Club Premier Air France/KLM Flying Blue Asia Miles
Avianca LifeMiles Emirates Skywards JetBlue TrueBlue
Qantas Frequent Flyer Program Singapore KrisFlyer

The Benefits

Brex offers an above-average selection of perks, particularly the set of credits and discounts for business services.

  • Statement credits: $5,000 for Amazon Web Services, $150 for Google Ads, $500 for Twilio, $1,560 for SendGrind, $5,232 for ZenDesk, and 15% off WeWork, among others
  • Brex Travel: This portal allows you to book corporate travel, reportedly offering potential savings ranging from 30%–60%. Brex Travel also allows cardholders to save unique travel profiles with frequent flyer information.
  • Proprietary expense management tech: Perks like transaction data cleanup and receipt capture help make it easier to record and organize expenses.
  • Seamless integration with modern accounting tools: Connect your Brex account with software like Quickbooks, Expensify, and Xero.
  • Virtual cardsBefore you get your physical card, you’ll receive immediate access to virtual versions of your Brex card, so you can make purchases online and by phone ASAP.
  • U.S.-based support: Phone, email, and chat options offer versatile, convenient support when you need it most.
  • Fraud monitoring: Round-the-clock fraud monitoring featuring a blend of machine intelligence and human analysis helps safeguard your personal information.

Remote Collaboration Benefits

On top of the card’s typical benefits, Brex is offering several additional perks to help serve remote workforces, including:

  • 20% off an annual Zoom subscription
  • 25% off 12 months of any eligible Slack plan
  • 50% off an annual Dropbox subscription
  • 3 months of discounts on DoorDash
  • $100,000 in incremental AWS (Amazon Web Services) credit
  • 25% off an annual Monday.com subscription

The Terms & Fees

Annual Fee Employee Card Fee Foreign Transaction Fee
$0 First 4 for free; $5 per month after that None

The Brex 30 is a charge card — that means it needs to be paid in full each billing cycle (every 30 days). That could sound restrictive, but many companies see that as a nice feature because there’s no bothering with interest rates or fees.

Your first five copies of the card are free; after that you’ll be charged $5 per month, per card.

If you combine the Brex 30 with a Brex Cash account, the balance can be paid daily from that account. You’ll also earn more points in some categories.

The Bottom Line

Without a doubt, the Brex 30 Card is one of the most impressive cards for corporations and large businesses. If you meet the requirements, it offers a comprehensive solution covering everything from expense management to benefits and rewards.

That’s a lot of bang for your buck, all for no annual fee.

Remember, the eligibility requirements aren’t like most other business cards. Brex requires you to be a corporation or other non-individual liability company to qualify for any of its products, and the Brex 30 has extra hurdles on top of that — you’ll need $50K in the bank if you have investors, or $100,000 without.

Sole proprietors, contractors, freelancers, and regular consumers aren’t eligible. If you need a simpler option with wider eligibility, see our favorite business credit cards.

How Do I Apply for the Brex 30 Card?

Follow the link below to apply for the Brex 30 card. Be sure to check the qualifications and requirements.

What Credit Scores Do I Need to Qualify for the Brex 30 Card?

Brex doesn’t use your personal credit scores for the application, and a personal guarantee is not required. Instead, Brex will use your business financials to determine your eligibility, including your revenue, funding status, and funds in the bank.

    • Work for a corporation or another non-individual liability company (such as a C-Corp, S-Corp, LLC, or LLP)
    • Be organized and registered in the U.S.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can get the Brex 30 Card?

Only corporations and other non-individual liability companies will qualify for Brex products. You must be organized and registered in the U.S., with an EIN.

For the Brex 30 card, you’ll also need to have at least $50,000 in the bank if you have investors; if you don’t have investors, you’ll need $100,000.

Sole proprietors, contractors, and consumers aren’t eligible for Brex. There are also some prohibited activities, such as gambling and prostitution.

Does the Brex 30 Card require a personal guarantee? Will applying affect my credit score?

No. Unlike most business cards, you won’t need a personal guarantee to get the Brex 30 Card. Your personal credit history and credit scores are not involved.

Instead, your eligibility is determined by your business financials, like revenue and whether or not you have investors.

With no personal guarantee, you’re not liable for paying the card balance — but your company is. Learn more about personal guarantees here, and see other cards that don’t require them.

What’s the Brex 30 Card’s credit limit?

Your credit limit with the Brex 30 Card is determined dynamically based on your business financials. That means it can grow (or shrink) depending on how your business does from month to month.

Some factors that influence Brex 30 credit limits are the amount of equity in your company, your spending patterns, your business credit history, and how other businesses in your industry are spending money. Brex will give suggestions for how you can increase your limit.

Overall, Brex states that there are three ways it determines credit limits:

  1. Connected-bank underwriting (recommended for monthly statements)
  2. Bank statement-based underwriting as an exception if connected-bank underwriting is not an option (may be accepted for monthly statements)
  3. Brex Cash underwriting (required for daily statements; may be used for monthly statements by qualified customers)

Why We Picked It

For a different take on the corporate charge card, see the American Express® Corporate Platinum Card (Review). Like the Brex card it needs to be paid monthly, and comes with a variety of perks and rewards.

Amex corporate cards have a travel bent, for the most part; the Corporate Platinum provides a CLEAR membership along with the celebrated Global Lounge Collection, which provides the best airport lounge access you’ll find among business and consumer cards. There’s also an airline fee credit and Hilton Honors Gold status to help make you (or your employees) a bit more comfortable.

Unlike the Brex 30, however, the rewards are fairly minimal. This card’s edge comes from the business benefits and tools, rather than the points.

The Stripe Corporate Card is similar to the Brex 30 in many ways.

It too is a corporate charge card with a host of benefits, mainly credits and discounts for business tools. Slack, AWS, Hubspot, Google Ads, and Expensify all get a seat at the table, among quite a few others.

Rather than an extensive reward program, you’ll simply earn 1.5% back for everything you buy.

The Stripe card has no annual fee, but it requires a Stripe account. As of March 2021, you’ll need to request an invite to apply.

The Business Platinum Card® from American Express (Review) is more your typical business card, although it’s near the top of the pile. It doesn’t have Brex’s strict requirements, and it does require a personal guarantee.

Small businesses with a lot of traveling to do can access excellent perks, like travel credits, elite hotel statuses (Hilton and Marriott Bonvoy), and security screening credits to speed you on your way. And that’s not to mention the Global Lounge Collection, which gets you into Priority Pass lounges and Delta Sky Clubs along with the more exclusive Amex Centurion lounges.

This card comes complete with a rewards program that earns valuable Amex Membership Rewards points, which are best used by transfers to airline and hotel partners.

In the mood for something simpler? The Capital One Spark Cash for Business (Review) is one of the easiest business cards to use, but that doesn’t mean it can’t pack a punch.

The Spark Cash is an ordinary business card, and it requires a personal guarantee, so you don’t need a big corporation or lots of money in the bank to qualify.

For a rather small annual fee, you’ll earn 2% cash back on everything you buy — twice as much as the normal 1% for non-category purchases. No need to bother with bonus categories or redemption strategies. 2% back is just 2% back.

This card is pretty plain, without too much else to get in the way other than a decent selection of shopping and travel protections (and rather than getting in the way, those underrated benefits could prove very useful).
