Many credit cards today offer a 0% introductory APR period for purchases you make. During this period, which can be different for every card, you won’t pay any interest on your credit card balance as long as you use the card responsibly.

You will still need to make minimum payments every month, however. If you don’t, you could lose your 0% rate and be switched to the regular APR, or the even-higher penalty APR. Check your card’s terms and conditions to learn how late or returned payments could affect you.

After the introductory period is over, the interest rate will switch over to the regular purchase APR. Depending on the card you have, your previous balance may or may not still benefit from the 0% rate.

If you’re interested in these 0% cards you should ask yourself: which ones would fit the best into your shopping habits?
