This card is issued by the Navy Federal Credit Union, and is only available to those who have participated in the military, some other federal programs, or their families. Click here for a full explanation of the eligibility requirements. You’ll need to be a member of the Navy Federal Credit Union to get this card.

A minimum security deposit of $200 is required upon account approval.

When you apply for this card, you’ll have the option to choose Visa or Mastercard. Visa benefits only include an Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver and some shopping and travel discounts, whereas Mastercard benefits include its version of rental insurance, as well as some basic shopping and travel protections. Both versions feature cell phone protection and a zero liability policy.

This is a good choice for a secured credit card if you can get it, because it offers rewards, a rare find among these cards: 1X point per dollar spent on all purchases, and access to the NFCU Member Mall as well.

This card comes with no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, and no balance transfer fees.
