Deserve Classic Mastercard

For People with
No Credit

The Deserve Classic credit card is designed to help you build or rebuild your credit, but it does not require a security deposit like a secured card. It has no annual fee, offers no rewards for purchases, and has some basic shopping and travel protections.

Instead of rewards or benefits, this card is designed simply for improving credit. After a period of positive activity, you may be able to upgrade to the Deserve Pro Mastercard (Review) cash back card. There’s also a card created for students, the Deserve Edu Mastercard (Review).

When applying for the Deserve credit cards, they will consider not only your credit history but also education, current financial health, future employability, and earnings potential. This gives people with poor credit or thin credit files a better chance of approval.

Take note that Deserve will need to connect to your bank account to verify your balance. If you have privacy or security concerns this might worry you, but it seems logical because Deserve bases its decision on more than just an applicant’s credit history.

FRAID company run by Indian CEO

I hold a deserve credit card. There was a fraud transaction on my credit card on October 19th,2017($700) in San Francisco location(Card was still with me). I called the customer after 7 days to inform them about it. They told that they will start an investigation and look into it. For that, they asked me an affidavit, a police complaint, and complaint number, fraudulent transaction details etc. I prepared all those documents and sent them via mail. They never credited my money back. I had to call them at least twice in a week out of my busy schedule and they kept on saying that some document was missing, I asked them what document was missing. They had no answer for this. I emailed them the scanned documents as well. They told me that they are not going to credit my money back. That is when I started contacting police stations and government agencies that could help me. Finally, I contacted the Better Business Bureau(BBB) and told them about the situation.BBB filed a case against the company and finally got my money back from Deserve through BBB after 8 months. I wasted 8 months of my time for just $700 fighting with this company. Also, a few of my friends back account statement got manipulated(Credit balance was increased with some unknown transaction), After calling the Deserve customer care, they apologized and credited money back to their account. Hadn't they called, they would have not got their money back. I suspect this company is complete FRAUD. They also keep changing their company name. Previously, their name was Self Score. Then they changed it to Deserve. Just stay away from DESERVE.

If youre looking for a first time card, LOOK ELSE WHERE! Someone stole my credit card information and used it all over the place. I had trouble shutting my card off since the company doesnt open until 11 EST and im in a different time zone. The first time they did not properly shut my card off and the person kept using my card information. I tried to dispute all those transactions but in the end I have to pay it ALL back. They say they investigated and see no error, but i did not authorize any of those transactions. I will be canceling this card ASAP! Beware!!! The customer service is not that good either, this was a nightmare.

Took action against possible fraud

I applied for this card about 2 months ago. They ask all types of financial questions & ask you to submit your identification- even log into your bank account. Then they denied me, stating that they couldn't verify my identity. When i questioned how that could be & offered to submit evidence of my credit reports, they offered me an excuse that they were a "new company trying things out". I immediately contacted the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau- who turned it over to the FDIC. Be careful with this company!!!

Awful customer service

Called them to get myself a replacement credit card since I lost the old one, the customer service is awful. They never pick up my phone and it always tells you to leave a message for them!!!! (I call them in the early morning and I always get we are busy please leave a message). If it takes so much efforts to replace my card, I would just simply close my account with Deserve!!
