Cabela’s CLUB Mastercard®

For People with
Fair Credit

The Cabela’s CLUB Mastercard has replaced the old Cabela’s CLUB Visa, and this new card is issued by Capital One rather than Bank of America. The new card is more rewarding for certain purchases, and comes with additional benefits. See the section below for details on this transition, and what to do if you had the old card.

Want to get 5% back on purchases at sporting good stores and gas? Consider an alternative to this card, the Ducks Unlimited Rewards Visa Signature® Card.

Cardholders will earn CLUB points based on their member level at Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shops, participating Cenex convenience stores, and a variety of affiliated resorts and restaurants. You can see all of those participating locations below.

CLUB Points (at Cabela’s and affiliates) Status Level Annual Spend Requirement
2X CLUB Classic None
3X CLUB Silver $10,000
5X CLUB Black $25,000

1X Club point is provided for every other purchase, at non-affiliated merchants.

Points can be redeemed for purchases at Cabela’s or Bass Pro Shops, at a rate of $1 for 100 points. This means you’ll earn a cash back equivalent of 2–5% at Cabela’s and affiliates, depending on your status level, with 1% back everywhere else.

The annual spend requirements refer to calendar years (January to December). In addition to the spend requirements, eligibility for the Silver and Black status levels will be based on your creditworthiness. The better your credit, the better your chances of approval. The Silver and Black levels also come with different card designs.

It will usually take up to five business days to process your status upgrade after reaching a spend requirement. The new status level will last for the remainder of the current year and for the next year as well. Downgrades will usually be processed in January, based on the previous year’s spending.

Cardholders also get a variety of benefits, including extra point opportunities through the Gear Guide. Silver and Black status members have access to Signature Outdoor Adventures, and invitations to exciting workshops and training events through The Experiences program. There are also several purchase and travel protections provided by Capital One. Cardholders at the Classic and Silver levels will receive World Mastercards, while those at the Black level will receive a World Elite Mastercard with enhanced benefits.

Unlike most cards, the Cabela’s CLUB Mastercard has different interest rates depending on where you’re shopping. Purchases made at Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops will have an APR of 9.99%, while all other purchases will get the APR shown below.

The Cabela’s CLUB Mastercard has no annual fee, and there are no foreign transaction fees.

Bass Pro Shops offers the same card product, which is identical in every respect except the name and card design: The Bass Pro Shops CLUB Card.

What You Need to Know About the Transition from Visa to Mastercard

If you had the original Cabela’s CLUB Visa, you should receive a new Cabela’s CLUB Mastercard by December 2018. If you don’t receive a new card contact Capital One at 1-800-227-4825.

There are quite a few things to be aware of regarding your new card and account:

  • You must activate your new card and set up an account with Capital One before you can use it, which you can do by clicking that link or calling 1-800-300-5984.
  • If you already have a Capital One account, you can sign in with your regular login details to link the Cabela’s CLUB Mastercard to your account.
  • You’ll now be logging in to your online account through Capital One, rather than Bank of America.
  • Your old Visa card will be deactivated soon after you receive a new card.
  • Your new card will have a new account number and other details.
  • Your new card will not show up as a new account on your credit reports, it will remain the same.
  • You may get new interest rates, with a new billing due date and minimum payment.
  • If you set up automatic payments or were paying for any subscriptions with the old card, you’ll need to set up those services again with the new card.
  • You’ll be able to see the last 12 months of statements in your new online account (this may take 30 days to transfer).
  • Any rewards you earned with your previous card will be transferred to your new card account.
  • Any authorized users on your account will remain, and they will be issued new cards with new account numbers (the cards will be sent to the primary user’s address).

Cancelling account

I’ve had a Cabela’s Visa since 2007. Since then, I annually charge approximately $150,000 to this card. In the time that Capital One took over and they switched to Mastercard, my card is routinely declined at places I’ve shopped at for years - and my account is NEVER “maxed out” or otherwise behind. Capital One’s security routinely flags “unusual” purchases, or purchases from places where they claim there is a lot of “fraud”, so now my card routinely gets declined when I am buying gas, groceries, etc, again, from places I’ve shopped at for at least 10 years. I’ve called customer service to complain and its the same story - “we are sorry for the inconvenience, its for your own protection”, “your card is fine, try using it again.” Well, I’m done with this card, it is absolutely horrible, the fraud detection unit is out of control with constantly declining the card for purchases it deems “unusual.” I am so disappointed, not only will Capital One lose out, but so will Cabela’s where I shopped at a lot with my points. Good riddance.

Another person who hates capital one.

After 10 years with cabelas club I am closing my account. I never had any problems my card before and now they are telling me it takes 5 days for a electronic payment to be credited to my account. So they can add late fees and interest. Smells like a scam to me. I will shop elsewhere from now on by by Cabelas.

Capital One is much harder to deal with than the old VISA card was. I am not at all happy with Cabelas changing credit card companies.

These people are liars and ruin good Peoples Credit. I paid off my credit card with them months ago and was told that everything was cleared and I was good to go, but now I have a delinquency on my credit because what they told me was false and ended up having a $60 charged my card which they did not notify me of, and I had to find out that I had a delinquency on my credit when I went to purchase a vehicle and they ran my credit. Now they say I owe them something like $160 and they say it's my fault. DO NOT GO THROUGH THESE PEOPLE!!! They will lie to you and try to make it your fault!

Cabela’s Capital One card is horrible

I’ve had the Cabela’s Club VISA card that was offered by Cabela’s own bank (World’s Foremost Bank) and had the best customer service for many years! They were better than anyone else and I enjoyed using this card for purchases and gaining the points at Cabela’s. With the merger of Cabela’s and Bass Pro and the changeover to Capital One MasterCard I can assure you that this experience is now the worst! The Customer Service Reps are arrogant and not at all helpful and the tools I had once used to alert me to payments due, charges, etc. seem to be unavailable or buried under levels of menus on their website. A call today to understand why I wasn’t getting my statements electronically and being charged interest for a payment that I didn’t get any alerts on was a fruitless waste of time! The CSR and her supervisor “Asia” couldn’t even say my name correctly and refused to do anything helpful.I’ll contrast this experience with one that I had with Discover Card a couple of months ago when I went through an paid off all outstanding debt. Discover Card recognized that I was a longtime member and forgave 4 months of interest charges when I paid off my card!! When I shared this expereince with Cabela’s Capital One their response was “so that’s nice, we don’t do that here”!I’m not so stupid as to close this account but trust me when I say I’m done using it! Cabela’s made a mistake going with Capital One and I’ve taken this card out of my wallet and Apple Pay as a result. I like the store but hate the card now - hopefully Cabela’s will take notice of these multiple bad experiences.
