The New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) is the home of the latest American Express CenturionSM Lounge, a luxurious addition to the one of the busiest airports in the country. The lounge is located on the third level in Terminal B, and is exclusive to American Express cardholders.
According to today’s press release, New York’s Centurion Lounge is a 5,000 square-foot haven for travelers to relax and unwind before a long trip, or just catch a brief respite in between flights. It’s designed to help you both work and play, with high-speed WI-FI and quiet, noise-buffered areas to let you work in peace or spend time alone. Services are also available for making business, travel, and restaurant reservations.
The real focus at the LGA lounge, however, is the food and drink. The food was designed by Cédric Vongerichten, Executive Chef of the famed Perry St restaurant in NYC, and it rotates seasonally. Loungers will also enjoy specialty cocktails inspired by the city of New York, created by liquor mixologist Jim Meehan, as well as fine wines chosen by wine director Anthony Giglio.
Centurion Lounges are open from 6AM to 8PM to anyone with an American Express card; if you have a Platinum or Centurion card, your access is complimentary, but other American Express cardholders must pay $50 for a day-pass. If you have a Platinum or Centurion card, you can bring up to 2 guests or your immediate family; if you purchase a day-pass, you can bring your children under 18 in for free but must purchase day-passes for any other guests. Upon entering, you’ll need to present your American Express card, your boarding pass for that day’s flight, and your ID.
Brian Kelly, the Points Guy, took a tour of the new lounge before it opened to the public. He reports that the lounge is located before the security checkpoint, so loungers will need to plan accordingly. Although it’s smaller than the other U.S. Centurion Lounges, it is still by far the best lounge that LGA has to offer. He had high praise for the food.
LGA’s Centurion Lounge is the third of its kind in the U.S., with the other two located in the the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. Two new lounges are under construction and set to open within a year, one at the San Francisco Airport and one at the Miami International Airport.
The lounge is meant to serve as a place of calm in the busy city, says Lisa Durocher, Senior Vice President of Consumer Charge Cards and Benefits at American Express. “As our third Centurion Lounge, opening the LaGuardia Airport location marks a huge milestone for us, and brings us closer to our goal of creating a better airport experience for our Card Members,” she said.
